Drawing with basic shapes

Still Life Drawing

Building Strong Foundations: Exploring Shapes in Art

Over the past four weeks at Sharz Art Design, we’ve been diving into the fundamentals of drawing by focusing on line work and shapes. From circles, triangles, squares, and rectangles, we explored how these basic forms serve as the building blocks for creating more complex drawings.

Last week, we brought everything together with still life drawing, applying what we’ve learned to real objects. This hands-on practice helped students see how everyday items can be broken down into simple shapes, making the drawing process more approachable and structured.

This Week’s Homework – Finding Still Life Around You!

To further strengthen this foundation, your homework challenge is to find five objects around your home, desk, or room to draw from life.

✏️ Tips for Success:

  • Look for items that have clear shapes—mugs, books, fruit, or even your favorite pair of shoes!
  • Arrange them in a way that interests you and try sketching their shapes before adding details.
  • If drawing from real objects feels tricky, search for “how to draw” tutorials online for simple household items and give those a go!

This exercise will help you refine your observational skills and gain confidence in breaking down complex objects into simpler forms. As always, there’s no deadline, so take your time and enjoy the process.

Once completed, don’t forget to upload your work to ClassDojo as a private message to Mrs. Cormack or email it to enquiries@sharzartdesign.com for written feedback.

Happy drawing! 🎨✨
