Pathways to Progress

At Sharz Art Design, our art classes for kids and teens go beyond the basics. Pathways to Progress is a curated collection of programs designed to help young artists grow—from their first creative explorations to building competitive portfolios and major works. Each class offers targeted support, inspiration, and development opportunities at every stage.

Young Archies Program

Build Skills for the Young Archie Competition

Our Young Archies Program is designed for students who are interested in developing their portrait drawing skills and preparing to participate in the Young Archie competition, held each year by the Art Gallery of NSW.

Beginning in Term 4, this program focuses on the key skills needed to create a thoughtful and confident portrait. Students will learn how to observe facial proportions, capture expression, and develop strong drawing techniques while working from real reference images. Throughout the term, we guide students through the process of planning and refining their artwork so they feel prepared and confident when it comes time to create their competition entry.

The program encourages students to think about who they would like to portray and why, helping them build a meaningful connection to their subject. Along the way, they will explore composition, shading, and the importance of storytelling within portraiture.

This class is ideal for students who enjoy drawing people and want to challenge themselves by working towards a clear artistic goal. It also provides a supportive environment where students can build confidence, develop patience, and refine their observational skills.

While participation in the competition is optional, the program is structured to ensure students gain valuable skills regardless of whether they choose to submit their work.

By the end of the program, students will have developed stronger portrait drawing techniques and a deeper understanding of the creative process behind portraiture.

Preschool Playtime

Is your little one ready to discover the magic of art? Our Preschool Playtime sessions at Sharz Art Design are specially crafted as a joyful introduction to creative expression for children aged 3-5. We understand that parents want engaging activities that genuinely benefit their child’s development, and our program delivers just that in a fun, relaxed, and play-based environment.

Each 1-hour session, priced at just $35, is a comprehensive artistic adventure, with all materials included – so you don’t need to worry about extra costs or preparation. Your child will delight in exploring fundamental art skills through a unique blend of activities: every session features a dedicated drawing component to enhance fine motor skills, a watercolour component for vibrant colour exploration, and a hands-on craft component to spark imaginative thinking.

We know some parents might wonder if their child is “too young” for art, or if it will be messy. Rest assured, our nurturing environment focuses on process over product, allowing children to freely explore mark-making and colour play. These carefully designed activities significantly contribute to developing essential fine motor skills, fostering early visual literacy, and, most importantly, cultivating a lifelong love for art. Witness your child’s confidence bloom as they express themselves creatively in a secure and encouraging setting.
